Why We Do It
Mission Statement

To enrich and enliven the lives of all Irish-Americans in the U.S. (and in particular South Central Pennsylvania) with Irish cultural and historical events past and present. To endear all to the contributions the Irish have made in America. Enlightening all of the 40 million plus Americans of Irish descent through the Adams County Irish Festival featuring Irish Music, Art, Foods, Celtic Artifacts and living history events.

To this end we wish to establish an Adams County Irish History Museum and Library to research family names and collect artifacts.

We would also like to contribute to charitable Irish organizations.

To accomplish this through the Festival, Local, State, National and Private & Corporate Foundation Grants and donations.

*The Adams County Irish Festival is produced and presented by the Irish Heritage Foundation of Gettysburg, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

2010 Grant Recipient:

The festival board has again selected Conway Mill Trust as this year's recipient. Conway Mill Trust is an all-volunteer Irish-American cross-community fundraising organization working for economic, community, social and cultural development in Northern Ireland. More information is available at their website which can be accessed by clicking on the link.
About Conway Mill Trust:

Conway Mill Trust undertook fundraising for the people and communities of Northern Ireland in the Fall of 2005 when eight Pittsburgh people took over Doirse Dochais (Doors of Hope), after one of its founders and last remaining board members Elizabeth Logue retired. Conway Mill Trust and its predecessor, Doors of Hope, was chartered in 1988.

While we have a new name, our mission is the same as our forerunner work for economic, community, social and cultural redevelopment in Northern Ireland. We carry out our mission by fundraising in the U.S. in order to provide grants to the ten community groups we support. We leave the decision as to how they use the funds to the community groups themselves. That way they can direct the funds to where they are most needed.

The core contributors to Doors of Hope, now Conway Mill Trust, have remained steadfast in their support, and we are grateful for their outstanding loyalty.
