Why We Do It
Mission Statement

To enrich and enliven the lives of all Irish-Americans in the U.S. (and in particular South Central Pennsylvania) with Irish cultural and historical events past and present. To endear all to the contributions the Irish have made in America. Enlightening all of the 40 million plus Americans of Irish descent through the Adams County Irish Festival featuring; Irish Music, Art, Foods, Celtic Artifacts and living history events.

To this end we wish to establish an Adams County Irish History Museum and Library to research family names and collect artifacts.

We would also like to allow for at least 2 children per year from the north of Ireland to visit Adams County to learn more about religious and political freedom and tolerance. Currently this is being arranged through the Children's Friendship Project for Northern Ireland. Whether local host families are available or not, we help CFPNI to fund transportation costs of Irish teens.

To accomplish this through the Festival, Local, State, National and Private & Corporate Foundation Grants and donations.

The Children’s Friendship Project for Northern Ireland, Inc., an all-volunteer non-profit program, has introduced more than 1,600 Catholic and Protestant teens to one another and has brought them in pairs to host families across the U.S.

The teenagers, aged 15-18 years of age, come from Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland Coordinators interview and screen all applicants and select and pair them with a member of the same sex and similar age, but opposite religious affiliation. Local host families are sought each year to host teens during the summer. Any local host families and Irish teens will also be invited to the Adams County Irish Festival each year. Interested families should contact a local coordinator for the area they live in by visiting the CFPNI Contacts page (click here)

If you would like to help but are unable to be a host, you can help in other ways. You can help CFPNI overcome their biggest limiting factor by making a financial contribution to help pay for the transportation costs of the teens. In addition, the CFPNI is also selling cookbooks & t-shirts in order to help raise money. There are over 100 recipes from both the USA and Northern Ireland, and include many recipes that were favorite among the children would visited America. The Cookbooks sell for $15.00 each, shipping included. These books can be used for your own enjoyment or as gifts. To order a cookbook or shirt, click here
