Pre-festival CD Release Party in Gettysburg
Celebrates Derek Warfield�s Third Civil War Music Album, The Bonnie Blue Flag
WHAT:
Held
rain or shine, the Fifth Annual Adams
County Irish Festival features a full day of family fun with traditional
Irish music, dance, food and arts/crafts along with living history portrayals
and music workshops.� The music slate
features international recording artists Danny
Doyle and Derek Warfield along
with several other regional performers.�
The festival benefits the Children�s Friendship Project for Northern
Ireland, a peace and friendship building program for Catholic and Protestant
teens from Northern Ireland.� The Adams
County Irish Festival is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
WHO:
A
native of Dublin, �Ireland�s Balladeer� Danny
Doyle has been bringing the ballads, history and stories of Ireland to
audiences around the globe for over 30 years. As a folksinger, Doyle has
enjoyed tremendous success both in Ireland and the U.S. with a number of hit
records, TV series, a movie soundtrack and every major Irish music industry award
to his credit.
Also
from Dublin, recording artist, songwriter and historian Derek Warfield was a founding member and leader of the legendary
Irish folk band, the Wolfe Tones for over 35 years. He has written and
recorded over 60 songs and ballads. Warfield�s repertoire includes �A Nation
Once Again� of which the Wolfe Tones version was voted the world�s most popular
song in a 2002 BBC Network World Service poll beating selections by bands such
as The Beatles.� Warfield is now
becoming known as the bard of the American Civil War as his recent work focuses
on the Civil War which involved half a million Irishmen on both sides.� Warfield�s latest album, The Bonnie Blue Flag, is the third in
his series of Civil War CDs and showcases the musical story of the Confederate
Irish. With Gettysburg as an appropriate backdrop to celebrate the
release of the new album, a special pre-festival Reception/CD Release Party is
being held the night before the festival. The reception is free and open
to the public.
WHEN:
The
festival is on Saturday July 17, 2004 from 10:30 AM � 8:00 PM at the Gettysburg
Moose Park.� Derek Warfield will lecture
on the history of Irish music in the Civil War from 10:30-11:30 AM; Danny Doyle
performs from 2:30-3:30 PM; Derek Warfield & The Sons of Erin will perform
from 5:30-6:30 PM.� The pre-festival Reception/CD Release Party will be held
at the Gettysburg Hotel on Friday July
16 at 7:00 PM.
WHERE:
The
festival is held at the Gettysburg Moose Park, 100 Moose Road
in Straban Township east of Gettysburg, PA.�
Moose Road is off of US 30 about 1.6 miles east of the US 15
interchange.� The pre-festival Reception/CD Release Party will be held
at the Gettysburg Hotel, One Lincoln
Square in downtown Gettysburg.
